Kids on Campus
During the summers of 2018 and 2019 Augustana Education majors hosted a program for kids in the Rock Island/Milan School District in partnership with Spring Forward Learning. The Augie students help create STEM enrichment activities such as coding, robotics, geocaching, and GIS mapping with the assistance and expertise of professors from Augustana. The students also worked on developing their literacy skills and went on a variety of weekly field trips. |
Opportunity Kicks Tutoring
In 2013 three Education majors from Augustana decided to start a tutoring club to support the academic and social needs of children from the refugee and immigrant population in Rock Island, IL. Almost every week during the school year since it was created, Augustana College has hosted an average of about 10 students for tutoring and academic/social enrichment. The students are all members of the Opportunity Kicks Soccer Club, a local non-profit soccer club for refugee and immigrant children.
